DOCKER, Ludford Charles.
Amateur.
Born at Smethwick, Staffordshire, 26th November 1860.
Died at Alveston Leys, Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, 1st August 1940.
The son of Ralph Docker of Smethwick, he was educated at the King Edward VI Grammar School, Birmingham. He was first selected for Derbyshire in 1881 and topped their batting averages that season. He captained the team in 1884, and played for them in 48 first-class matches in all. In 1887 he moved to Warwickshire, playing 11 first-class matches for them. He also played for Worcestershire, not first-class, on occasion. In 1887/8 he toured Australia with Shrewsbury’s XI. He played his club cricket with Handsworth Wood, in the Birmingham League and in 1886 presented the Docker Shield for competition between Birmingham Schools. He was President of Warwickshire CCC 1915-30. His brothers Frank Dudley and Ralph also played a couple of matches for Derbyshire. He became the Chairman of Docker Brothers and was a J.P.
There is no trace of him in the 1881 Census.
