LYTTELTON, Hon Edward.
Amateur.
Born at Westminster, London, 23rd July 1855.
Died at Lincoln, 26th January 1942.
He was the seventh son of the Rt.Hon. George William, the fourth Lord Lyttelton, K.C.M.G., D.C.L., of Hagley Hall, Stourbridge, who played for Cambridge University in 1836.
Five of his brothers played first-class cricket Hon A (Middlesex), Hon G.C. (Cambridge University), Hon R.H. (MCC), Rev the Hon A.T. (MCC) and Hon G.W.S. (Cambridge University); and three of his nephews Hon J.C. (Worcestershire), Rev the Hon C.F. (Worcestershire) and Rev Bishop N.S. Talbot (Oxford University). He was educated at Eton and was a member of the cricket eleven 1872-74, being captain 1874. He went up to Trinity College, Cambridge, and was a member of the University cricket team 1875-78, being captain in 1878. He played soccer for England v Scotland in 1878. He played in 57 first-class cricket matches 1875-82, including 13 for Middlesex. He also played for Worcestershire and Hertfordshire. He was an assistant master at Wellington College 1880-92 and at Eton College 1882-90. He was ordained. Headmaster of Haileybury College 1890-1905 and was a Hon Canon of St Albans 1895-1905. He was Headmaster of Eton 1905 to 1916. Rector of Sidestrand, Norfolk, 1918-20 he remained there in retirement, during which time he wrote many religious works.
No trace of him could be found in the 1881 Census.
