Brief profile of Jimmy Maher
by Andrew Hignell

Player:JP Maher

Jimmy Maher joined Glamorgan in 2001, and in his first season with the Welsh county he passed a thousand runs and hit a sublime double-hundred against Essex at Cardiff. The Essex bowlers were on the receiving end again when Maher returned for half a season in 2003, and the forceful left-handed batsman scored a rapid 142 in their Sunday League encounter at the Sophia Gardens ground.

Maher returned to county cricket at the end of 2005 as an end-of-season replacement with Durham, and he went back to the north-eastern county for all of the 2006 season, during which he amassed over 900 first-class runs, and scored three centuries in one-day games.

He returned to Glamorgan for the 2007 season.

Maher appeared in 26 One Day Internationals for Australia and in several he kept wicket. In 1993 Maher was a member of the Australian Cricket Academy, and in 2003 he was a member of the Australian squad that won the cricket World Cup. He has also captained Australia 'A' and has led Queensland with much success since 2002/03.
