Brief profile of Stamford Hacker
by Dr.A.K.Hignell

Player:WS Hacker

Stamford Hacker is one of the few first-class cricketers to have represented Glamorgan and played alongside the legendary Dr. W.G. Grace. Indeed, the tearaway fast bowler so impressed the Doctor that he joined the Gloucestershire staff in 1899 and remained with them until 1901.

Hacker subsequently played for Herefordshire, before moving to South Wales where he joined the Hill`s Plymouth club in Merthyr. Hacker made his Glamorgan debut in 1908 and was a regular member of their Minor County side either side of the Great War.

Although he was 45 when Glamorgan entered the County Championship in 1921, Hacker was still a canny seam bowler, and he played in 23 first-class matches for the Welsh county before retiring at the end of the 1923 season.
