PONTIFEX, Dudley David.
Amateur.
Born at Weston, Bath, Somerset, 12th February 1855.
Died at West Dulwich, 27th September 1934.
Educated at Sydney College, Bath, he went up to Trinity College, Cambridge, where he won a blue for billiards. He played in the Freshmen’s match in 1875 but played no first-class matches until 1878. Between then and 1896 he played in 17 first-class matches, including nine for Surrey in 1881 and one for Somerset in 1882. He was a barrister.
In the 1881 Census he is living at The Hermitage, Croxted Road, Camberwell, Surrey, aged 26, a law student, with his wife Clementina, aged 21, born in Jamaica, and son Reginald, just six months old. There are three domestic servants.
