Scorecard: | Lancashire v Warwickshire |
Summary of day 3

Lancashire started the third days play trying to accumulate batting points and in the process avoid the follow-on. Mal Loye was unlikely to play any further part in the match after sustaining an Achilles injury, so the pressure mounted on Sutcliffe and Schofield to play responsible roles. In the 8th over of the day, Sutcliffe (72) was adjudged leg before wicket following a long appeal from Brad Hogg (190-4). What followed in the next 29 overs was truly breathtaking. Schofield and Chapple added 168 runs (5.79 per over) and sparked the game into life. Unfortunately, Schofield fell one run short of his century three overs into the afternoon session, and Lancashire ended up just two runs ahead of Warwickshire after a late clatter of wickets. Chapple scored 112 runs from 90 balls and was the sixth man out. His century was the second fastest of the season and came from just 82 balls. Nick Knight (3) refused to walk in the second over despite clearly being caught by Keedy at cover point (3-1). Mark Wagh departed in the penultimate over before tea for 24 to revitalise the match (66-2). However, a second century of the match for Ian Bell and a patient innings of 41 from 89 balls from Trott left the game drifting toward no man's land in the late evening sunshine. With the crowd thinning by the minute, Keedy snapped up two wickets in two overs to setup an interesting final day. Quite what Powell must have been thinking after his second duck of the game (both third ball), one can only imagine. One wonders who must have felt the worse. Powell for not scoring, or Schofield for missing his first century by one run!
