| Player: | Yuvraj Singh |
DateLine: 5th May 2009
Yuvraj Singh was the top-gun behind India's blazing success in the inaugural T20 World Cup. First a 12-ball-50 against England in which he carted six sixes in an over by Stuart Broad and then another exceptional knock against Australia gave India totals even the best batting attacks could not chase. He is a gifted player and has a reputation of playing well on tracks where the ball bounces a bit and comes on to bat nicely. This would mean bowlers would have their task cut when they counter him in the T20 world Cup in England, considering the place is one of Yuvi's favourite and he has played memorable knocks like that of the Natwest Final out there. Yuvraj made his debut at the age of 19 and was instantly recognized on the world stage as someone who was a potential matchwinner. He proved it right and at one time, out of the 12 fifties the Chandigarh lad had hit, 11 had been in winning causes and most of these in testing conditions. Apart from being a very talented batsman, the southpaw is also a left-arm spinner and has struck a purple patch with his bowling off late. He also picked up a hatrick in the second season of the IPL against the Bangalore Royal Challengers. He is also a brilliant fielder and has taken some blinders in the point region. He is pivotal to the Indian line-up and would be crucial in the T20 World Cup coming up in England.
