Player: | J Botha |
DateLine: 5th May 2009
The tall off-spinner has been one of the key members behind the success of the South African side in the limited-overs format. He held the skipper's post recently when Graeme Smith was injured for the ODI's and did quite well both as a bowler and the skipper. Botha bowls with a very tight leash, and his trajectory is such that batsman find it very difficult to go after him. He sometimes gives the ball a little bit of air but most of the time tries to push ih through at a length which makes him a difficult bowler to be carted out of the park. Alongside being a good off-spinner, the 27-year-old is also handy with the bat and can hit a few lusty blows when required. The only problem with Botha though is that he has been reported for his action quite a number of times. The latest complaint against his action was filed during the fourth ODI against Australia, earlier this year. He has still been picked up in the side as the South Africa board is confident that he will be cleared by the ICC.
