The International Cricket Council on Tuesday confirmed that an independent test has found the ‘doosra’ delivery of South African off-spinner Johan Botha to be illegal and the player has been warned against bowling that particular delivery in international cricket any more.

According to an ICC release, Botha's doosra was measured at 26.7 degrees by the ICC's appointed biomechanist, Bruce Elliott, and the delivery has been banned until the bowler can prove he can deliver "the other one" at a prescribed limit of less than 15 degrees.

But the same assessment found that the South African vice-captain Botha’s off-break (12.2 degrees) and arm-ball (11.1 degrees) deliveries were bowled within the tolerance level and so the 27-year-old can continue to bowl those types of deliveries at international level and there is no question of a total ban.

The release also said that the Protean must undergo remedial work and further testing if he wants to continue bowling that delivery at the international level.

Botha was reported following the completion of the fourth ODI between Australia and South Africa in Port Elizabeth on the 13th of April. The report was made by the two on-field umpires, Brian Jerling and Asoka de Silva, along with third umpire Rudi Koertzen.
