Division One

 

Replying to Somerset's 357, Sussex were all-out for 197 as Alfonso Thomas claimed 5 for 53. Thomas demolished the top order as Sussex crashed to 9 for 3 when Michael Yardy was dismissed. Matt Prior and Ed Joyce added 97 for the fourth wicket before Prior was dismissed Thomas. Ed Joyce and Luke Wright both fell quickly as Sussex conceded a lead of 170.

 

Electing to bat first Worcestershire made a mammoth 415 with Steve Davis's 112 being the cornerstone of the innings. After a four-hour delay Yorkshire batted and Michael Vaughan seemed like he was getting back into his groove with a fluent 21, which contained five majestic hit to the fence.

 

Division Two

 

Rain came to the rescue of Northamptonshire as Glamorgan in 16.2 overs ripped out three Northamptonshire wickets. James Harris claimed two while Harrison took the other wicket. James Harris and David Harrison, who were all but unplayable during the first session, reduced Northamptonshire to 28 for three before the rain brought a premature end to the second day the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff.

 

Graham Napier and David Masters shared eight wickets to put Essex in full control against Kent. Justin Kemp and James Tredwell managed to add 56 before before Kent limped to 123. Despite a lead of 157, Essex declined to enforce the follow-on and increased their advantage to 266 by the close. Essex lost openers Alastair Cook and Jason Gallian but Varun Chopra looked in fine touch as the visitors finished day two on 109 for three.

 

Mark Ramprakash and Michael Brown shared a second wicket partnership of 158 to put Surrey on course of a second successive victory on a rain-interrupted day against Leicestershire at Grace Road. Off 36 overs possible, Surrey scored 96 runs to reach 217 for two, giving them a lead of 52.
