Marcus North believes that Australia now possess an edge over England after dominating the fourth Test at Headingley. England struggled in the first Test at Cardiff but escaped defeat when the tail hung on to secure a draw. The English side then outplayed the Australians in the victory at Lord's.

But while they were in the driving seat for much of the third Test at Edgbaston, they were unable to get the wickets they needed on the final day as the visitors held on for the draw. And, with Australia on the verge of victory after just two days at Headingley, North believes that his team is in a superior position.

"Earlier in the series, England got that draw at Cardiff and then really came out at Lord's firing and took that momentum forward. England went into the final day at Edgbaston thinking they were going to win and, for us to blunt that, it's really given us the momentum now," he said.

He added: "I think we learned a lot from the way we went about it at Edgbaston. It's a mental thing.

"We had to be a bit more disciplined with our batting and I think we showed that in how we applied ourselves here at Headingley and we got our rewards."
