The Australian selectors have named Victorian left arm-pacer Dirk Nannes in its Twenty20 squad to play England only months after he represented the Netherlands. at the World T20 tournament.
Nannes can still represent Australia because Holland is an associate member of the ICC and do not have full membership rights, meaning he is also permitted to play for a full member nation.
The Australian captain Ricky Ponting will miss the T20 fixture and also the one-dayer against Scotland but will return once the one-dayers resume. Notable omissions from the T20 squad include Mike Hussey, Nathan Bracken and Peter Siddle, all of whom are still in the ODI squad.
Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch added a new name to the mix by employing Tasmanian wicketkeeper Tim Paine as Brad Haddin's understudy for the ODI series.
Speaking about Nannes, Hilditch said his panel was looking at using a greater number of specialists ahead of next year's World T20 in the West Indies following a disappointing result when eliminated early in this year's event in England.
"We are using the two matches against England to look at different make ups to the squad and include players who we consider T20 specialists in preparation for the ICC World T20 next year," he said.
"We are keen to look at different players as specialist T20 players in these two matches and in this instance we have selected Dirk Nannes following his strong domestic performances in recent seasons to have a look at him in the Australian set up."
Ponting's resting following the end of the Ashes series was described by Hilditch as the last chance to give him a break before 2010.
"Ricky Ponting is having his workload managed and he will return home to Australia after the fifth Test at the Oval and will miss the ODI against Scotland, the two Twenty20s and the start of the of the ODI series against England," Hilditch said.
