England left-arm seamer Ryan Sidebottom wants to send Australia back empty-handed, but he also admitted feeling some jealousy towards his Ashes-winning team-mates.

 

The left-armer took the new ball in yesterday's washed-out Twenty20 at Old Trafford and is one of the important members to England's prospects for the remainder of the one-day series.

 

"I think we are going places as a team. But we make no bones about the fact we've got a lot of improvement to do as a team, especially in one-day cricket," he said.

 

"We're pretty close as a team, so we hope we can get out there and do well again. It would be an ideal situation to beat Australia in all forms of the game and send them home not winning everything.

 

"There is a great determination in the team to do that.

 

"I think there are a lot of traditionalists, and everybody wants to watch Test cricket. But I think all forms are important.

 

"England want to be number one in all areas of the game - Twenty20 and one-dayers included - and when we achieve that that it will be great and it will be talked about a lot more, rather than just in the Test side.

 

Sidebottom feels the baton passing to the limited-overs players to keep Australia down.

 

"We're the ones with the responsibility of going out there and putting on a performance," he added.

 

"Obviously we know Australia are very strong and are a good side, but we've got some good players."

 

Though the Nottinghamshire seamer is focused on the contest at hand, he does concede to casting envious glances at the players who were part of the Test success.

 

"I still feel part of the team. I've been in and around the squad set-up for the last three years - but from a jealous point of view, I would have loved to have been a part of the Ashes.

 

"I wasn't, and you have to get on with it. But I've got some great mates in the dressing room and I'm happy for them. They've done fantastically well, so it was pleasing to see.

 

"Obviously, being at home sitting watching games with England winning and bowlers performing well has been really tough, really frustrating.

 

"So it's not been easy, and very frustrating at times, but just to come back and be fit and well and to be in and around the squad has been good. I'm pleased to be back."
