Event: | ICC Women's World Twenty20 2010 |
DateLine: 6th May 2010
The Australian women won a thrilling encounter as they got better of their old rivals England in the second match of the ICC World Twenty20 2010. The match at the normal stage ended in a tie and the match went into the Super over. Even in that stage the scores were tied and the match was decided with the highest number of sixes. In that case the Australian side had struck one six in the course of the match and that was enough to declare the team from Down Under winners.

English skipper Edwards won the toss and elected to bat first. That was the only positive thing for the English side for the first half of the match. The bats-women of the English side failed to gain any sort of moment in the face of strong brilliant bowling from the Australian side. Barring Sarah Taylor (46, 44b, 7x4) none of the bats-women made any sort of impact on the game. For the Australian side Sthalekar got three wickets while the rest of the bowlers got a wicket each. England were rolled over for 104 in 17.3 overs.

If the Australian bowlers were simply brilliant in the England innings, the latter returned back the favour in the next innings. It was the turn of the English leather flingers to torment the Australian side with some accurate bowling. The Australian side would have conceded a defeat to the English side had it not for the lower order rally. Sthalekar, Healy and Farell kept their cool as they guided the Australian side to 104 before being all out.

With the scores leveled the match went into the Super over. The Australian side could manage just 6 runs as they lost their two wickets. If England had fancied their chances they were wrong as they could only manage the same score losing their two wickets as well. With scores still tied the match was decided with the highest number of sixes which was achieved by the Australians ide.
