Recently resigned test captain Shahid Afridi expressed his delight and satisfaction at seeing his team mates level the test series against Australia at Leeds.

Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net ; Afridi stated that he had not been able to watch the whole match, but had followed the score and action whenever he could.

"I was travelling from London to Dubai when the final day's play was going on and found out when I landed in Dubai that the boys had won. I was delighted for them and it was great that Pakistan has finally beaten Australia after so long in a test match. Finally that statistic can be put to bed and we can now ignore that statistic in future."

The 30 year old all rounder who has represented Pakistan on 358 occasions confirmed that he had been on the phone to his team mates and congratulated them on the 3 wicket victory.

"Yes I spoke to a few of the boys after the win at Leeds, including Umar Gul, who I congratulated on scoring the winning runs. The spirits were high and morale was good. The boys were naturally very pleased and looking forward to the series against England."

Afridi stated that he would be spending a few days in Dubai relaxing with friends and would fly out to Karachi in the next day or two.

"I'll be in Dubai for a few days and will fly out to Karachi in a couple of days time to resume training ahead of the one day and Twenty20 series against England that commences on 5th September. The side strain is not yet fully healed so naturally I won't be able to push myself fully in training, but it's important that I start my fitness work as soon as I get back home."

Afridi had been linked with playing a match for English team Lashings, but his manager Umran Khan confirmed that Afridi had not played in the fixture that was scheduled for last Friday.

"The Lashings guys asked me if Afridi could play for them as a one off venture, but the injury situation and the fact that he would have required a NOC from the PCB made it unlikely. In the end Shahid did not play for Lashings."
