East Lancs have confirmed the signing of South African all rounder Matthew Kleinveldt as professional for their 150th anniversary season.

Kleinveldt is a left-handed opening batsman and off-spin bowler. He has to date played 41 first-class matches for Western Province, 17 one-day matches and 11 T20s. Making his debut at the beginning of the 2010-11 season he has now scored over 2200 First-class runs at an average of 34.20, and taken 21 wickets at an average of 28. His highest score of 170 was made as recently as 3rd October this year.

He is from a cricketing family, his cousin Rory representing South Africa at both one-day and Test levels.

Kleinveldt was born in Southampton, England whilst his father was working in this country and played his cricket here until 2009, most notably for Hampshire 2nds from 2007 to 2009. He was offered a county contract by Hampshire but this had to be rejected due to visa regulations and returned to South Africa where he had gone to school.

Kleinveldt won a contract with Western Province after some impressive performances on his return.

The club would like to thank Gary Hunt at Cric-Intro for his assistance.
