Mumbai, Aug 2 :Hanif Mohammad's family is planning to import medicines from India. The symptoms of cancer have resurfaced and Hanif Mohammad's condition on Monday is said to be stable in Karachi's Aga Khan Hospital.

 

"We had sent his biopsy report to a specialist in London and the report is "not encouraging", the son Shoaib Mohammad, speaking exclusveily over his mobile from Karachi, said.

 

"Prof Justin Stebbing, the Head of Leaders in Oncology Care (LOC) has suggested a few medicines, which are not available in Pakistan and the injections are only available in India and Belgium", he said.

 

"I have seen the histology from the right lower lung lobe lesion and note the cells stained for CK7 and are negative for CK20, CDx2 and TTFI consistent with spread from the known cholangiocarcinoma. I think it is worthwhile trying Permrolizumab in the sense that there is nothing to lose and data here are pretty convinving albeit early", Prof. Stebbing has said in his medical report, a copy of which is linked below and is in our posession.

"The injections prescribed by him are very expensive and not available in Pakistan. I shall be contacting my friend and former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin and also seek help from Rajeev Shukla if the same cane be arranged from India at a cheaper rate", Shoaib added.

 

"We are waiting for Dr Adnan Jabbar, the cancer specialist at Aga Khan Hospital, to arrive (from overseas) on Tuesday. He will prescibe the dosages of these injections and will see the next line of treatment".

 

India-born Hanif Mohammad already had a cancer-related surgery in July 2013.

 

"Government of Pakistan had helped us in the past but now this treatment is going to be very expensive and may exceed Rs. 70 lacs. We hope to receive help from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Government", Shoaib added.

 

"Hanif Mohammad's family will also need support from their government, if the injections are to be sent from India as the company reserves the right to deliver the injections only if the patient has been seen and prescribed by an Indian doctor", Mehul Shah, the company executive speaking exclusveily, said. "But of course if the request is routed through their government, we will be more than happy to deliver these injections to Hanif Mohammad in Pakistan", he said.
