Stuart Whittingham signs new two-year contract with Sussex

Monday 8th August 2016
Sussex are delighted to announce that young fast bowler Stuart Whittingham has signed a new contract at The 1st Central County Ground, which will see him remain with the county until at least the end of the 2018 season.
The 22 year-old seamer progressed through the Sussex Youth and Academy ranks after moving to the south coast at a young age, before signing a full professional deal at Hove for the first time during the winter. He made his Championship debut for Sussex back in May, against Derbyshire in his birthplace of Derby.
He has played six of Sussexs Championship matches so far this season, taking 18 wickets with his best figures coming in the draw against Glamorgan at Hove, when he claimed 4 for 58 in the visitors first innings.
Whittingham, who picked up a wicket with his first ball in the return game with Derbyshire at Hove, said of his new deal, Its been a dream of mine to play for Sussex, and to have the chance to do that over the next two years is the dream come true.
Now its back to working hard, trying to improve every day, and trying to put in as many good performances for the club as I can to help them win games.
Im very pleased with my progress this year; I couldnt have asked it to go any better. The season started really well for me in the second team, I got a lot of confidence from taking wickets there, and to bring it in to the first team and carry on taking wickets has been massive for me.
Sussexs Head Coach Mark Davis said, Stu is a very exciting prospect, who has been given an opportunity this season and grabbed it with both hands.
He is another one of our young players that has progressed through the youth system and gone on to make an impact in the first-team this season, and at times he has led the attack with pace and aggression.
