Rawtenstall have signed the veteran Sri Lankan all rounder Hasantha Fernando as their professional for 2017.

Kandage Hasantha Ruwan Kumara Fernando made his First-class debut back in 2001 and has gone on to hit 7923 runs at 31.8 with ten centuries and 48 half centuries. His right arm medium paced bowling has picked up 250 wickets at 25.6 with eight five wicket hauls.

The 37 year-old played the first of his two Test matches in 2002 and went on to play in seven One day Internationals for his country.

Rawtenstall Chairman Vinny Hanson said: "We are delighted to get the signature of Hasantha sorted and can now plan for the forthcoming season. He has come well recommended both as a cricketer and a coach which is hugely important to us. We are currently going through a period of change at the club, a few lads have looked elsewhere for a new challenge so it was important for us to get somebody who will be on the ground most nights working with the players. We are looking to attract new players who fancy the challenge of first eleven cricket alongside Hasantha."
