Media Release - 18 February 2005

Pakistan Cricket Board has accepted Board of Control for Cricket in India's proposal to move the Test venue from Ahmadabad to Kolkata. PCB has also agreed to play a sixth one day match at Ahmadabad. The proposal was conveyed to the PCB by the President of BCCI Mr Ranbir Singh Mahendra after their Working Committee Meeting in New Delhi on 17th February 2005. Mr Jagmohan Dalmiya also spoke at length to the PCB Chairman Mr Shaharyar M Khan on telephone.

PCB understands that the tour may have to be delayed by a few days in order to firm up administrative and logistical details.

PCB greatly appreciates the understanding and cooperation shown by BCCI by coming up with an amicable and positive response to some of PCB's earlier reservations on venues.

PCB Chairman would like to acknowledge the statement of Mr Natwar Singh, the Foreign Minister of India, categorically stating in Islamabad that sports should not be politicised and that the postponement of the tour was not an option. The two respective Boards have resolved the issue in the same spirit, demonstrating cooperation and sportsmanship.

PCB is also indebted to Mr Ehsan Mani President of ICC for extending a helpful hand in resolving the issue during his recent visit to India.

PCB is now looking forward to an enjoyable and sporting series.
