Approximately 18 months before his First-class debut as a right arm seam bowler, Wayne White was plying his cricketing trade in the Derbyshire County league as an off spinning batsman. The fact he has developed his seam bowling so quickly is undoubtedly helped by his bounce giving height and his ability to consistently bowl a good line and length. His coaching has been mainly in the hands of Mike Hendrick, not a bad man to have as a mentor. White bowled very well in his first match, which shows evidence of a good temperament, although he went relatively unrewarded with match figures of 1-123. In his second match he bowled less well, but claimed 4 wickets in a rare Derbyshire won. Such a practical lesson in the crazy world of being a county seamer will do him no harm as he takes up a 1 year professional contract in 2006
