Nelson have signed South African slow left armer Robin Petersen as a replacement for Australian off spinner Nathan Hauritz who announced last year that he would not be returning as the club's professional.

Petersen, who was sourced by Gary Hunt's Agency Cric-Intro, has played in 5 Test matches, including the 1st Test at Edgbaston on South Africa's tour of England in 2003. The 26 year-old took the wicket of Michael Vaughan in the second innings at a cost of 33 runs but wasn't called upon to bat in the drawn match.
In a First-class career that began in 1998-99, Petersen has taken 172 wickets at 36.4 with his slow left arm orthodox spin. The left handed batsman's highest score in a 65 match career is 130, one of four centuries in a total of 2346 runs at 26.1.
Nelson's signing of Petersen means that their will be at least five slow left arm spinners in the Lancashire League this coming season. Haslingden expect to announce a signing soon which just leaves champions Lowerhouse to make an announcement regarding Andrew McDonald.
