Media Release - 21 April 2006

Shoaib Malik operation scheduled in Cape Town
In past years, Shoaib Malik had suffered injuries to his elbow and shoulder that were not correctly treated at the time. This has led to continuous discomfort to Shoaib and an inability to straighten his arm.
2. The injury was diagnosed by Sports Injury Expert, Dr. Vrettos of Cape Town as not serious but requiring an operation to correct a loose tendon between elbow and shoulder.
3. This diagnosis was referred to the PCB Medical Commission who confirmed that Shoaib Malik required the operation and that it could be performed either in Pakistan or abroad. After consulting Shoaib Malik, it has been decided that the operation should be carried out by Dr. Vrettos who has treated him earlier and is a specialist in shoulder - related sports injuries.
4. Shoaib Malik will leave for Cape Town on 24th April and will stay in Cape Town for a week for post operative observations. He is expected to be fully fit by the England tour.
