Sri Lanka name two uncapped players for New Zealand tour

Sri Lanka on Wednesday named uncapped Chamara Silva and Akalanka Ganegame in a 14-man Test squad for the New Zealand tour starting later this month. Middle-order batsman Silva has played 10 one-day internationals and seamer Ganegame, four, but both have to yet to figure in a Test. Ganegama will be replaced with Ruchira Perera for the one-day series after the Test matches. Sri Lanka, who will play two Tests and five one-dayers, will open the tour on November 30 with a warm-up game against Otago at Dunedin. The opening Test begins in Christchurch on December 7. Middle-order batsman Mahela Jayawardene has already been named captain of both the Test and one-day squads, with wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara as vice-captain. Former skipper Marvan Atapattu opted out of the Tests after back surgery in May. He is included in the one-day squad.

One-day squad: Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Kumar Sangakkara (vice-capt), Sanath Jayasuriya, Upul Tharanga, Marvan Atapattu, Tillekaratne Dilshan, Chamara Kapugedera, Chamara Silva, Farveez Maharoof, Chaminda Vaas, Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando, Muttiah Muralitharan, Malinga Bandara, Ruchira Perera.
