Player: | MH Yardy |
DateLine: 20th February 2007
A compact and technically sound left handed batsman Michael Yardy is very much the new kid on the block having played just two ODIs against Pakistan in 2006. He has had a quiet start but there are indications that he could achieve bigger feats. One knock has stood out so far in his first class career a mighty 257 against Bangladesh at Hove in 2005 the highest score by a Sussex batsman against a touring team surpassing George Cox jrs 234 against the 1946 Indians. He followed this up with a career best five for 83 with his left arm spinners. That was exactly double his previous tally of first class wickets. His good form during the season ensured selection for the England A tour of the West Indies and although he has not been a success abroad his splendid record around the county circuit guaranteed him a place in Englands squad for the Champions Trophy in India.
