| Player: | S Matsikenyeri |
DateLine: 20th February 2007
Given his early promise the career of Stuart Matsikenyeri must be rated a mite disappointing. A talented middle order batsman who plays the cut and pull shots particularly well and a useful off spinner he made his ODI debut against Pakistan at Bulawayo in 2002 opening the innings. In his maiden Test against West Indies at Harare in 2003 going in the middle order he scored 57 and 46 not out. But subsequently he has had only one half century against Bangladesh. His record of just three half centuries in over fifty ODIs also does not conform to his talent and initial promise. He played one match in the 2003 World Cup and in the NatWest Series in England scored a crucial 44 at Trent Bridge in an unexpected four-wicket victory over the hosts. He has also represented Zimbabwe at the Under-16 and Under-19 level and has also had a stint of club cricket in Australia.
