Rammy Second's trounce Colne
by Robert Read

Scorecard:Ramsbottom Second XI v Colne Second XI

DateLine: 28th April 2008

Finally, the season began on a warm, pleasant day down at Acre Bottom. After winning the Toss, we put Colne into bat. Jack "Pigeon" Walmsley and Andy "Sargeant" Dalby started from were they finished last season and put Colne under good pressure backed up by some solid fielding.

Dalbs, then began to move the ball "both ways" bagging himself three bowled wickets and backed up by some good catching by Jack W and Rob Read, finished with 5-21.

Hassan Farooq then joined in the act and picked up three wickets with a fine spell of bowling to wrap up the tail. Matty Lees got his season with the ball up and running after a quick catch behind the stumps by Andy Holt.

Our innings got under way with Richard "Stubbsy" Rothwell hitting a 6 off the second ball into the River. Sam Price and Richard went on to put 63 on for the first wicket with some nice shots and aggressive running, before Sam mistimed one to mid wicket, to leave Chris "Rubber-Legs" Wood and Richard to steer us home with just under 30 Overs left. Richard finishing up on 50 not out.

A good start for us with some fine bowling and a solid opening stand to give us our first 12 points of the season.
