Player:FH Edwards

DateLine: 3rd June 2008

Fidel Edwards had a dream start to his international cricket career. He was first spotted by Brian Lara in the nets at a time when he had played just one First Class game. He was then called up to make his Test debut against Sri Lanka and repaid the faith shown in him by Lara, by hauling up five wickets on debut. That was way back in 2003.

He then went on to claim a five wicket haul on his first overseas Test and finished up this amazing run by scalping six batsmen on his ODI debut against Zimbabwe, also in 2003. With an open chest action, he bowls quite fast and can swing the ball too but his accuracy is something that is much more desired. This he could learn from his neighbour Corey Collymore or even his half-brother Pedro Collins.

His lack of consistency has led the selectors to become wary of him as a Test player but he was chosen for the 2007 tour to England. Before that he also missed the world cup in 2007 at home which was a great opportunity lost. But he has been impressive whenever he makes a comeback, as he took five wicket hauls when he returned in both forms of the game after being dropped in 2006.
