Scorecard: | Ramsbottom v Bacup |
DateLine: 13th June 2008
Bacup won the battle of the Pro's at Acre Bottom on Friday's 20/20 encounter, beating Ramsbottom by 9 wickets, with three balls to spare.
The margin appears a trouncing, but the fact that 9 were needed off the last over showed its closeness.
Ramsbottom having been put into bat, got off to a flying start with a half-century opening stand between sub-pro Wayne Madsen and Phil Hayes. Hayes was first out, immediately after pulling a hugh six into the river, he attempted the same next ball and was caught at the deepest point of the outfield for 19. South African Madsen continued to flourish hitting all the Bacup bowlers around, but sadly he found little support in the middle order. He was finally out five short of a deserved century, striking 14 fours, but the team tally at the end was a disappointing 162. Pro Chris Harris, and Paul Gallagher each took 3 wickets apiece.
Jack Walmsley struck early having Gallagher well stumped by Richard Hevingham with the score on 15, but that was to be the home side's only success. Chris Harris and Matt O'Connor built their innings with style. At first running behind the clock the built up to the point where 9 runs were needed from the very last over. Six from O'Connor off the third ball secured victory allowing him to post his half century. Harris a former Rammy pro hit 7 fours and 4 sixes in his 87 not out, in a unbeaten partnership worth 149.
