Scorecard: | Rishton v Ramsbottom |
DateLine: 28th June 2008
Ramsbottom returned to winning ways with victory over League Champions Rishton at Blackburn Road on Saturday. A half-century by David Bell leading the way.
Winning the toss, Simon Read chose to field first on a damp wicket, ravished by the rain throughout the week. The main stay of the Rishton innings was 86 runs by their pro Saeed Anwar Jnr, but his progress was stifled by tight bowling from Shane Harwood and Mick Haslam. Harwood for the third match running took 2 wickets with successive balls to break through, with Simon Read picking up four late wickets to restrict the home side to 193 for 8.
Despite losing Keith Webb early on, in form Phil Hayes gave the visitors a good start with a sprightly 43, placing the ball to all parts. He shared a 2nd wicket partnership of 71 with David Bell. The Rishton pro was basically ineffective, with Bell recording a steady half century. He batted for just over 2 hours, taking Rammy to the brink, which Shane Harwood finished off with a quick fire 42, hitting the winning runs off his opposite number by driving over his head for 6.
