Scorecard:Ramsbottom v Rawtenstall

DateLine: 27th July 2008

Ramsbottom's Championship aspirations all but subsided when they were soundly beaten by 118 runs on a hot summers day at Acre Bottom.

Choosing to bat first the visitors made hay in the sunshine amassing a formidable 253 for 4. Nathan McCullum the Rawtenstall pro helped himself to 97 not out, and opener Andrew Payne a more circumspect 64.

A slow turning wicket, the Rammy seamers were stifled, even Shane Harwood turned to bowling offspin on the unhelpful wicket. Again Ramsbottom did not help themselves to the cause with 10 no balls and seven wides, eleven of them in the first 4 overs.

It was a procession of wickets as the home side never really looked in the hunt, Rawtenstall used three spinners throughout the innings with Andrew Payne being the most successful with a haul of six.

David Bell fell one run short of a half-century, and a fine innings from Andy Holt gave some respectability to the tally.

Rawtenstall's victory in the light of Accrington's defeat at Nelson brings them to withing 10 points of the lead, Rammy drop down to sixth spot.
