Scorecard:Ramsbottom v Colne

DateLine: 3rd August 2008

A sound all-round performance in a rain-effected match saw Ramsbottom comfortable victors against bottom club Colne at Acre Bottom on Saturday.

Phil Hayes and Richard Rothwell gave the innings a brisk start after skipper Chris Read opted to bat first, the opening stand of 51 was the starting pistol that saw most of the home batsmen contribute useful contributions. Hayes was first out just 15 runs short of a league tally of 500. Professional Shane Harwood struck the ball well for his 42, Richard Rothwell opening the batting for the first time carried his innings well and would having batted for 92 balls have been disappointed at his dismissal for 34.

Two sharp showers left the visitors a target of 185 in 38 overs but they were never really in the running. Mick Haslam with three wickets, a brace from Harwood and Walmsley (including pro Weerakoon) and a debut victim for Ross Brown kept Ramsbottom in the leading six of the Lancashire League.
