Rain forces Mumbai, Rajasthan to share points
by CricketArchive

Scorecard:Mumbai Indians v Rajasthan Royals
Event:Indian Premier League 2009

DateLine: 21st April 2009

The rain finally had its say in the Indian Premier League, ensuring that the match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The rain had affected the previous match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab as well, but at least they managed to have a decision. It never really stopped raining after that, and there was no real chance of getting this match on the ground.

On the way things have been going for the sides, one could assume that Shane Warne and the Royals wouldn’t be too unhappy to come away with one point from the contest, or no-contest, as it turned out. They would have been hard pressed to pull off a win against the formidable Mumbai team.

Given the uncertainty of the weather, even Sachin Tendulkar and his men would be happy with one point, since a rain-truncated game can create a lot of situations which would be avoidable. This way, both sides have a point, which is not the worst decision.
