| Player: | AA Noffke |
DateLine: 28th April 2009
Ashley Noffke won a Cricket Australia contract for the Ashes tour way back in 2001, but while he has stayed on the radar, he has not been able to find a slot in the team due to injuries. He has often been compared to Glenn McGrath and even billed as a replacement for the great bowler. In 2006-07 he was recalled to the Australia A team for a trip to Pakistan. He bowls with a high, uncomplicated action and generates excellent pace. He is also a more than capable lower-order batsman who can defend stoutly, and in 2003-04,he raised his maiden first-class century (114 not out against South Australia). His 30 Pura Cup wickets at 24.30 were complemented by two half-centuries to complete a great 2007-08 season, which meant that he was called up for two Twenty20 internationals, his ODI debut in Brisbane against India, and a spot on Australia's Test squad for the West Indies in 2008.
