Match notes
Overnight rain delayed the commencement of play for one hour. Loxton was out to the seventh ball of the innings while Hackett and Maddern were each dismissed first ball faced. JJ Mahoney recorded his top score of 36 in 57 minutes with five fours. The Queensland innings ended at 3.50 p.m. but further rain fell and play was abandoned for the day at five o'clock. New South Wales scored quickly on the second day their innings taking 265 minutes. Beatty hit five fours in 85 minutes; McCauley hit seven fours in 110 minutes; Stapleton hit six fours in 77 minutes; and Saggers four fours in one hour. Queensland again batted poorly in their second innings with only a fifth wicket partnership of 96 between HJH Mahoney (115 minutes, seven fours) and Loxton (101 minutes, nine fours) saving them from a disastrous collapse. The match concluded at 3.19 p.m. on the third day. Light brought an end to the second day at 5.53 p.m., seven minutes before stumps while on the third morning there was a twenty minute rain interruption in the pre-lunch session. On the second day AS Ogilvie took the field for HJH Mahoney who was confined to bed with a chill. NW McGilvray, who had been brought into the team to replace CG Pepper damaged his ankle at pre match practice and was made twelfth man instead of the nominated twelfth man HV Stapleton.
