The match was cancelled because the West Indies Cricket Board objected to the proposed inclusion in the Yorkshire team of G Boycott and A Sidebottom who had taken part in rebel tour matches in South Africa. Lancashire were going to replace Yorkshire to allow to match to be played but were then drawn in a Benson and Hedges Cup quarter-final which had to be extended because of rain.
