Epwoth was due to play the fixture on the 25th August and had a side picked but the newly reformed Epworth Town football club arranged a friendly at home on the same day. With half of the team opting to play football the games was conceed by Treasurer Mr Jack Kettle. Mr Walter Johnson, club secretary and selector, did not return from holiday until the Saturday so was unaware of the situation.
