The Star Newspaper reported "The visitors (Messingham) were easily vanquished, their downfall being due to some exceptionally fine bowling by Lowe and Hollin. Seldom has bowling been more severely trounced than that of Messingham's, the spectators saw some dashing cricket and Messingham had a trying time in the field. The Broughton innings was characterised by a beautifully compiled innings of 59 unbeaten by Kitchen. Jack Goates retired when he achieved the coveted half century and it does not fall to the lot of most clubs to put up two centuries in the short time it occupied Broughton to do so.
