Northamptonshire declared on 38/1 when play was possible after an interruption on Day 2 but this would have infringed Law 54 which forbade a declaration on the first day of a two day game later than 100 minutes before the close. The Hampshire openers had walked out to bat before this was discovered and Northamptonshire then continued batting.
