The match actually finished with England 2 runs short but owing to a series of bad umpiring decisions by two of the four umpires in the match, the Bishop Stortford captain, on being appealed to, good naturedly allowed the scores to be levelled. One of the bad decisions was when Anderson who had claimed a four for a boundary hit was given only 2 by the scorers as the umpire in question had left the field.
