Notes
--> Lunch: United South of England Eleven 103/3 (Fairbanks ?*, Hattersley-Smith ?*)

At the conclusion of the Gloucester v Sussex match which finished a day early this match was got up on the third day. It had been said that a match between Gloucester with broomsticks would play Cheltenham with bats. Though Grace and Gilbert were absent for the match arriving late, they nevertheless went in for a little exhibition batting. It cannot be said that the nomenclature of the United South of England team was correct as can be gleaned by some of the players names. Although the Cheltenham team wasn't given there must have been two Aston's playing as the initials were given for one.
