Buckinghamshire won this return match by the narrow margin of 6 runs, thus completing the double over Oxfordshire, having won at Aylesbury the previous week. The win was a boost for the visitors challenge to Worcestershire for the championship title. Rain delayed play on the first day until 4.20 pm. For the winners, Nash took 12 wickets in the match for 102 runs, and bowled unchanged in both of the Oxfordshire innings with Wright who took 8 wickets for 46 runs. Nash's match bowling performance was statistically the second best of the season. He had already achieved the best with 14 for 100 against Northamptonshire at Aylesbury in July. For Oxfordshire A Rogers took 11 wickets in the match for 61 runs and P Rogers 8 for 79. Newspaper reports indicate that the match ended in a contentious way. With Oxfordshire needing 7 runs to win, Headlam was given out caught by F N Bird and it was suggested that the fielder was standing on the boundary line and it should have been a four rather than a dismissal. Barber, the visitor's umpire, declined to reverse his decision despite protests from the Oxfordshire team and the spectators who witnessed the catch. He was subject to "a very unpleasant reception on returning to the dressing room". It was also claimed that Durrant had been given out by Barber caught behind the wicket when none of the Buckinghamshire side had appealed. Buckinghamshire's second innings total of 30 and the match aggregate of 332 runs were both the second lowest of the season. In the furore surrounding Headlam's dismissal, it does not appear to have been noted that he was Nash's 100th wicket in championship matches. Nash was the first bowler to reach this milestone. There is some uncertainty about which Bird caught Polley in the Oxfordshire first innings, but it has been attributed to F N Bird in line with the scorecard in the Banbury newspapers.
