This match was drawn. Both teams were making their debut in a Championship match. Glamorgan had arranged a full set of 8 fixtures to qualify for the Table, but Monmouthshire had just 4 matches, home and away against Glamorgan and Wiltshire. The weather had the final say in this drawn match, with rain forcing an adjournment of play at 5.30 pm on the second day and, although the game was resumed after a few minutes, further rain led to play being abandoned. Rain had also delayed the start on the first day until 2.15 pm. Monmouthshire had required 309 runs in their second innings to win. For Glamorgan, W H Brain batted just 53 minutes for his 113, which contained 1 six, 19 fours, 3 threes and 7 twos. Letcher scored 73, and there were 9 fours in Hickley's 65. In the Glamorgan second innings Letcher and W H Brain put on 123 runs for the sixth wicket, which was a new record for the Championship exceeding the 98 put on by H Pigg and H E White in the first innings for Hertfordshire v Norfolk at Norwich in 1896.
[Missing: Umpires; extras breakdown; in Glamorgan 2nd inns boundaries in Letcher's 73; in Monmouthshire 2nd inns fall of 3rd to 7th wickets.]
