This card comes from the Minor Counties Research Project
Wiltshire won by ten wickets on the second day, after Oxfordshire followed on 154 runs behind. Rain interrupted play on several occasions on the first day, and press reports suggested that overnight rain made conditions difficult for batting on the Saturday. For the winners, Eldridge took 10 wickets in the match for 67 runs, including 7 for 42 in the Oxfordshire second innings. Ashfield top-scored for Wiltshire with 87. By a quirk of fate, both the brothers Rogers had taken 99 Championship wickets in their careers at the start of this match. P Rogers was the first to get to the hundred when bowling Goudge at the start of the Wiltshire first innings, while A Rogers achieved it soon afterwards. The feats were not mentioned in the press reports of the games. By coincidence, G J Thompson of Northamptonshire was to reach the same milestone later in the day playing against Durham at Burnmoor.
