Berkshire just failed to win this drawn return match, after Wiltshire followed on 208 runs behind. The game between the two sides earlier in the month at Reading had been won by Berkshire. Rain delayed play on the first day until 2.00 pm, when only around two hours of cricket were possible, before a further downpour at about 4.00 pm halted cricket for the day. Overnight the two Captains agreed to play to 6.30 pm to try to achieve a result. On the second day, rain prevented play after the lunch interval until 3.35 pm when Wiltshire began their first innings which lasted less than an hour. Following-on, and with Miller having left the ground believing the game safe, the home team lost their eighth wicket with 5 minutes of play still remaining, but Eldridge joined Smart to play out time. For the visitors, there were 8 fours in Nepean's 68, 7 fours in Chapman's 55 and 2 fours in L G A Collins's 55. In the Berkshire innings, L G A Collins and Nepean put on 104 runs for the first wicket, and Chapman and Croome 56 runs for the seventh. For Wiltshire Overton took 8 wickets for 72 runs in the Berkshire innings. Miller and Smart shared the wicket-keeping duties for the home team. The Wiltshire first innings score of 43 was the second lowest of the season for a completed innings.
[Missing: Part extras breakdown; in Berkshire inns fall of 9th wicket.]
