This return match ended as a draw, as had the previous encounter between the two teams at Jesmond in May. For Northumberland, there were 8 fours and 12 fours respectively in Thompson's two innings of 55 and 89, and 13 fours in Clayton's 63 not out. In the Northumberland second innings, Thompson and Clayton added 151 runs for the fifth wicket, which was the second highest partnership for that wicket during the season. A feature of the match was the bowling of Turnbull. His 8 wickets for 73 runs in the visitors' first innings was statistically the joint third best innings bowling performance of the season.
His 82 overs were the most bowled in a match. His 46 maidens bowled in the game were the joint highest of the season, and his 30 maidens in the first innings joint second highest for an innings. For the home team, there were 10 fours in T B Robinson's 77, 6 fours in H R Elliot's 56 and 1 six and 8 fours in E W Elliot's 53. In the Durham first innings T B Robinson and H R Elliot added 108 runs for the fourth wicket.
