Despite the weather preventing any play on the first day and several rain interruptions on the second, Northamptonshire won this match by an innings and 7 runs with 27 minutes to spare. For the winners, Thompson took 13 wickets for 39 runs, including 7 for 13 in the Hertfordshire first innings. He also top-scored with his 46 not out, an innings which contained 4 fours. The Hertfordshire first innings total of 31 was the lowest of the season. The match aggregate of 187 runs for a completed match was also the lowest of the season.
