This return match was drawn. Northamptonshire had won the game between the two sides at Northampton earlier in the month. For the visitors, there were 17 fours, 4 threes and 11 twos in Thompson's 146, an innings of just under 3½ hours. Horton's 92 included 1 five and 9 fours, and Thompson's 55 not out contained 5 fours. In the Northamptonshire first innings, Thompson and Manning added 57 runs for the seventh wicket. In the Northamptonshire second innings, Horton and Thompson added 142 for the fifth wicket, which was the highest partnership for that wicket during the season. East took 10 wickets in the match for 101 runs, including 9 for 80 in the Surrey 2nd XI first innings, which was statistically the third best innings bowling performance of the season.
