This return match was drawn with Devon winning on first innings after not enforcing the follow-on. The game between the two sides at Newport in July had also been drawn. For the home team, there was 1 six, 1 five, 14 fours, 4 threes and 7 twos in Brunskill's 124, an innings of 195 minutes. His second innings 70 included 8 fours. Barnes's 70 contained 13 fours, Davies's 53 included 6 fours and Hawksworth's 52 not out contained 8 fours. In the Devon first innings, Brunskill and Davies added 112 runs for the fifth wicket, Barnes and Hawksworth 94 for the ninth and Aston 65 for the tenth. The Devon total of 482 was the highest of the season. After lunch on the second day, Hooman kept wicket for Devon as Davies had been hurt earlier in the visitors' innings by a rising ball from Aston. Davies was fit enough to act as a fielder. For Monmouthshire, E S Phillips's 72 included 9 fours. In the Monmouthshire innings E S Phillips and P C Phillips added 103 runs for the fourth wicket. Williams kept wicket for Monmouthshire in the Devon second innings. The 155 runs conceded by Stedman in the Devon first innings were the third most in an innings during the season.
