Devon won this return match by 237 runs at 3.55 pm on the second day. The Devon declaration set Dorset a victory target of 413 runs in around four hours. The match between the two sides at Devonport the previous week had been drawn. For the winners, Hawksworth took 10 wickets in the match for 96 runs, and Aston 9 for 113. There was 1 six and 9 fours in Light's 71. In the second innings Light and Hawksworth added 55 for the eighth wicket. Newspaper reports indicate overnight rain caused the wicket to play slowly on the first day and that Dorset in their second innings had to bat on 'a broken wicket'.
